SIM to share leadership and management training with Kenya’s institute

SIM Professional Development (SIM PD), the executive development arm of SIM, has inked an agreement with The Kenya Institute of Management (KIM) on 5 July 2017 to promote leadership and management development in Kenya.

The three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) will enable SIM to share with its Kenyan counterpart Singapore’s experience and expertise in training in the areas of leadership, governance and management; regulatory and institutional capacities in the healthcare industry; human resource development in the private and public sectors; infrastructure and services in the aviation and maritime industries; and business excellence awards and benchmarking.

The collaboration will also build on the knowledge and expertise of both parties to enhance the international competitiveness of both Singapore’s and Kenya’s economies, and strengthen ties between both countries.

With East and Central Africa’s largest economy by GDP, Kenya has the potential to be one of Africa’s great success stories. It has a population of 46.1 million growing by an estimated one million a year. With its growing youthful population, dynamic private sector and a growing middle class, it is one of the fastest growing African economies. In 2017, its economy is projected to grow by an estimated 5.8%. Among other things, addressing improved healthcare and education systems, good institutional governance and encouraging higher investment and firms’ productivity will be major goals for Kenya in order to achieve strong, sustainable growth.

Mr Ndegwa, Executive Director and CEO of The Kenya Institute of Management, and his delegation were in Singapore to participate in a five-day leadership training programme, the first initiative under the collaboration. The delegation comprised senior management from private and public sectors.

On the partnership, he said, “There is a lot that KIM can learn from SIM in terms of how we can improve sustainability and learn best practices from an institution that has come through the ranks, having started at an early stage similar to ourselves.”

Established in 1954, KIM is a professional management organisation that is ranked number two among the business schools in Kenya.

The collaboration is the first with an African country for SIM PD, which has hosted training programmes for delegations from other countries, including the Danish Society for the Advancement of Business Education and KS Business Graduate School.
